Visit to Romania of the NEA-OECD Director, William D. MAGWOOD IV And the NEA-OECD Policy Adviser, Mrs. Aleshia Duncan
Following the accession of Romania to the NEA-OECD (Nuclear Energy Agency under Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) and to its Data Bank, NEA-OECD General Director, Mr. William D. MAGWOOD IV and Policy Advisor of NEA- OECD, Ms. Aleshia DUNCAN will make an official visit to Romania from 27-30 August 2017.
Romania has established good relations with NEA. On 17th of May 2017, upon the recommendation of the Steering Committee for Nuclear Energy, the OECD Council agreed to invite Romania to become a full member of NEA and its Data Bank.
The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) is an intergovernmental agency which operates under the framework of the OECD. It facilitates co-operation among countries with advanced nuclear technology infrastructures to seek excellence in nuclear safety, technology, science, related environmental and economic matters and law. The mission of the NEA is to assist its member countries in maintaining and further developing, through international co‑operation, the scientific, technological and legal bases required for a safe, environmentally sound and economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
On this occasion, NEA-OECD officials will meet with Romanian Vice-Prime Minister, Mr. Ion-Marcel CIOLACU, the Secretary General of the Romanian Government, Mr. Mihai BUSUIOC, the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Victor MICULA and other representatives of the Government of Romania, as well as institutes and agencies with competences in nuclear field, academicians and scientists.
On 28th of August 2017, Minister of Economy, Mr. Mihai Viorel FIFOR will meet with NEA-OECD General Director Mr. William D. MAGWOOD IV at the ministry headquarters.
Also, on 29th of August 2017, the President of Romania Chamber of Deputies, Mr. Nicolae-Liviu DRAGNEA will have a meeting with the NEA-OECD delegation.
During this visit to Romania, NEA officials have set up technical visits to:
- Institute for Nuclear Research Pitesti (ICN Piteşti);
- Nuclear Fuel Plant Pitesti (FCN Piteşti);
- Extreme Light Infrastructure Center (ELI-NP);
Horia Hulubei National Institute for Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN HH).
